The gig economy is growing rapidly. About 700,000 Swedes have taken on projects mediated via online platforms such as Uber, Upwork and Offerta, according to a pan-European studie conducted by the University of Hertfordshire and Ipsos MORI. The term “gig economy” covers anything from small physical tasks (e.g. ad hoc garbage collection or dog walking), to more qualified work such as recurring consulting and advisory engagements.
At 80 MEUR, Sweden has the largest gig-economy in the Nordics, and it is expected to grow by 5-7% yearly over the next few years.
